How do I store it?
Factory-sealed liquid formula bottles should be stored in a clean, dry location at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze new formula bottles and never microwave any formula. After opening, it should be used promptly. Any unused milk remaining in the product container should be refrigerated immediately and used in less than 24 hours. Always check unused refrigerated milk prior to using and confirm the expiration date before feeding.
How do I prepare it?
Preparation instructions are included on most product packaging. We have prep guides available here as well. Please note European and British formulas use the metric system for measurements and quantities.
Can I heat up formula in the microwave?
No. Never heat feeds in a microwave as it can cause hot spots and scalding to your baby. You can warm the milk in a pot on the stove if desired and allow it to cool before feeding. All ready to feed formulas we offer can also be served at room temperature. Use the inside of your wrist to test the temperature before feeding your baby.
How many bottles do I need?
It depends on your baby's age, if you are formula feeding exclusively, and how frequently you want to order. We do have customer-administered subscriptions for some of our products to simplify ordering as well. While it varies, if exclusively using ready to feed, newborns and young infants will consume one 6 pack every 2-3 days. Older infants from 3-9 months consume more milk per feed so a best estimate of about one 6 pack every 2 days is advised. Toddlers consume less (one pack every 2-3 days) since they are eating solids as part of a varied diet and may be transitioning to grocery store milk or non-dairy milk alternatives.
Please adjust these quantities if you are combination feeding or also using powder formula or concentrated liquid formula. You can review our ordering schedule chart for more details. As a reference point, the vast majority of our customers who solely liquid formula feed purchase 12-16 packs every month. We don't have product order minimums or maximums for routine customer orders so you can order the quantity that is most comfortable for your needs.
How long does one pack of bottles last?
Generally, newborns and young infants need one 6 pack every 2-3 days if ready to feed formula feeding only. We always advise new parents to slightly overestimate their needs at the beginning to account for feed remakes due to spit-ups, nighttime spills and 'learning curve' mistakes. For older infants, the challenge is that they consume more milk per feed and are developing a varied diet with starting solids and water. A best estimate of about a 2-3 packs per week is advised. Can I switch brands?
Yes, of course! However, for ease, we recommend staying with a brand if your baby is consuming the feeds regularly without difficulty. The formulas are all high quality and generally relatively similar to each other. Unless, as a parent you have a particular reason for a change, if baby is happy, we would recommend keeping the formula as is. Obviously, if there is a medical change or need, follow the recommendations of your healthcare provider.
Can I combine breastfeeding and formula?
Yes. Many people do! Breastfeeding is a different experience for every female if it is an available option or choice. Even when women are able and choose to breastfeed, milk production levels can vary greatly and change over time often requiring formula to supplement milk production. Whether you breastfeed, formula feed, or use a combination approach is a personal decision for you and your family.
