Authenticity & Batch Traceability Guide

How We Verify What's in Every Can

As a parent, you deserve to know exactly where your baby's formula comes from — and how it got to your door. This guide explains the specific steps 4 My Tots takes to verify the authenticity and traceability of every product in our catalog.

Why This Matters

The American Academy of Pediatrics has raised concerns about imported infant formula purchased through unofficial channels, citing risks related to uncertain shipping conditions, improper storage, and product authenticity. These concerns are valid — and they are precisely why we built our sourcing and traceability protocols from the ground up.

We do not source from gray-market resellers, auction sites, or unknown third parties. Every can we ship to you has a documented path from manufacturer to your door.

Traceable Batch Numbers

Every product in our catalog must carry a traceable batch number that can be verified back to the manufacturer or our vetted European vendor network. This is a non-negotiable part of our product selection criteria:

"We only include brands and individual products that we can trace from reputable European vendors back to the manufacturer. Every product must be factory sealed, stored in appropriate conditions, and have traceable batch numbers."

If a product cannot meet this standard, it is not offered in our catalog — regardless of brand recognition or customer demand.

Vendor Vetting & Long-Term Relationships

We work exclusively with vendors who have earned and maintained our trust over years of partnership. Our vendor standards require:

  • Factory-sealed products delivered directly to our London facility
  • Appropriate storage conditions maintained throughout the supply chain
  • Consistent batch documentation and expiration date windows
  • Compliance with our product handling protocols

We have removed vendors in the past for issues including poor product handling, short expiration windows, and inconsistent quantities. That history directly informs who we continue to work with today. Full details are in our Selection Criteria page.

One note: We use long-standing reputable British grocers to fulfill product needs when necessary (especially during a product shortage). British grocery chains are a direct pipeline to formula manufacturers with traceability and excellent product handling. In fact, it is where most British parents get their baby foods regularly.

Packaging Integrity Checks

Before any product ships from our London facility to the US, our team inspects packaging integrity. Our protocols include:

  • Verification that inner seals are intact and undamaged
  • Confirmation that outer packaging is secure and appropriate for air freight
  • Lot number visibility confirmed on each unit
  • Reinforcement of outer packaging where needed to prevent transit damage

We use a cross-trained, single-team-member fulfillment model at each facility — meaning one person handles all product-related tasks for a given shipment, minimizing the number of hands that touch your order.

Lot Number Photos & Your Formula Assurance Claim

We ask customers to photograph the lot number on their canister as part of our Formula Assurance Policy claim process. This requirement serves two purposes:

  1. It creates a documented record connecting your specific canister to a verifiable batch in our system.
  2. It reinforces our internal traceability loop — if any concern ever arose about a specific lot, we could act on it immediately.

We encourage all customers to photograph the lot number on arrival and keep it on file for reference.

Climate-Controlled Storage & Express Air Freight

Improper storage and long transit times are among the top concerns cited for imported formula. Here is how we address both:

  • Storage: Products are held in hygienic, climate-controlled facilities at both our London and US locations — consistent with the atmospheric conditions specified on the manufacturer's label and European regulatory standards.
  • Transport: We use daily express air freight between London and the US. Products arrive at our US facility approximately two days after leaving London — not weeks aboard a cargo ship in unknown conditions.
  • Customs: We file all required paperwork as declared bulk air freight. We have never charged customers duties after checkout. Your payment at checkout is final.

What We Do Not Do

We want to be equally clear about sourcing practices we do not use:

  • We do not source from third-party resellers or gray-market distributors.
  • We do not use ocean freight or ship individual customer parcels internationally (which increases customs delay risk, handling exposure, and cost to you).
  • We do not offer products that cannot meet our batch traceability requirement.
  • We do not carry brands that have been in business for less than 20 years or violate our product recall history criteria.
